22nd Jan – Orientation

The College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences welcomes the new batch to the orientation ceremony today. The Ceremony was held at the Ziauddin University providing an opportunity for all the students to meet with their fellow classmates, faculty members and get a feel for what campus life will be like. 

3rd Feb – College Fair – Beaconhouse Ms. Amna, Ms. Hoor, Ms. Faryal

Our admission team Ms Amna, Ms Hoor and Ms Faryal went to the beacon house college fair to create awareness about our field and the requirement of speech therapist in different settings such as hospitals, clinics, schools etc.  We received an amazing response from the students.

24th Feb – Radio Show– SHAHIDhearing loss and cochlear implant rehabilitation

A radio show was organized by Ziauddin hospital in collaboration with Hot Fm 105 our Audiologist and Speech therapist Mr. Shahid Ali participated to raise awareness about the different types of hearing loss and different machines such as hearing aids available in the market and how it can help the patient. Not only that how Cochlear implant is transforming lives of children with profound hearing loss or adults who loss their hearing post insult and how speech therapy plays an important role in rehabilitation of speech.  

22nd  Feb Radio Show – Rabikainternational cochlear implant day

A radio show was organized by ZU FM 98.2 on 22nd feb’23 our Speech therapist Ms. Rabika Amanullah participated to raise awareness about the cochlear implant day and how cochlear implant is the latest solution for the patients who are hard of hearing and how cochlear implant surgery can transform lives provided appropriate speech therapy.

3rd Mar – Radio Show – ear and hearing care for all

On the account of World hearing day 3rd of MARCH and in collaboration with WHO a radio show was organized at ZU FM 98.2 our two Audiologist and Speech therapist Mr. Hafeez Punjani and Ms. Zoha Asif participated to raise awareness about hearing and hearing screening as well as how to take care of our ears and not put any foreign body in the ears.

16th Mar – Aural Rehab Journey

An informative lecture given by Cochlearimplant recipient Mr Faizan Javed who is post lingual Cochlear implant recipient he highlighting his aural rehabilitation journey to the students of College of Speech Language and hearing sciences.

19th June- Speech Swallow and hearing ax – Aga Khan Senior Citizen Jamatkhana

Speech, swallow and hearing assessment done at the Agha Khan jamaatkhana for senior citizens. Appropriate referrals were given to individuals with hearing loss and compensatory strategies were explained to individuals who presented with swallowing concerns. Our team screened almost 100 individuals, 50% of individuals had moderate to severe hearing loss.

31st Oct – Fundraiser

The College of Speech, Language, and Hearing Science, in collaboration with Ziauddin University and the Speech and Hearing Association of Pakistan, organised a highly successful fundraiser on October 31st to extend support to Palestine. The remarkable response from contributors exemplifies our collective commitment to making a positive impact on the world, reaffirming the power of solidarity in supporting noble causes such as aiding Palestine.

8th Dec – Michelle – Workshop on pre and post cochlear implant management

College of speech language and hearing sciences organised Exploring the Future of Hearing: Dr. Michelle Friecher leads a dynamic workshop on pre and post-cochlear implant management. Engaging discussions and active participation from our faculty and students pave the way for innovative approaches in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.

“Empowered by MED-EL immersive 4-day aural rehab training, participants embarked on the year-long journey of the Professional Certificate of Hearing Rehabilitation (PCHR) program. Guided by experts Marrie K and Sandra, they delved into theoretical intricacies and hands-on clinical methods, honing skills to aid children with hearing impairment. Through self-assessment and skill acquisition, they’re now equipped to create lasting change in Speech Pathology, championing inclusive communication for a brighter future.

19th Dec – Radio Show  – International Day of Persons with disability

On the account of international day of Persons with Disability a radio show was organized in collaboration with Zu FM 98.2 our speech language therapist Ms. Zahra Ibrahim and Ms Rabia Qamar raised awareness about different types of neurological disabilities such as neurological disorders and the role of speech therapist.

Awareness session about vision and hearing at Itecknology – 18th Jan 

Our audiologist, Ms Ayesha Siddiqa, participated in an awareness session organized by Ziauddin Hospital at itecknology regarding the importance of hearing and how frequently it should be tested. She was accompanied by an Opthamologist who presented on the importance of vision and use of braille amongst the blind. 

Orientation – 19th Jan

CSLHS welcomed their 17th batch on 19th January 2024. The orientation ceremony featured an inspiring speech by Chief Guest Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, sharing his career journey to motivate students. Pro Chancellor Dr. Nida and Vice Chancellor welcomed the students with enthusiasm.

ENT conference Lahore – Rabika – 23rd – 25th Feb

Ms. Rabika Amanullah was invited to the ENT conference Lahore by Mr Nadeem Mukhtar to give a talk language acquisition due to poor auditory access and its impact on Cochlear implant recipients. Ms. Rabika Amanullah shared her insights and videos of implantees to explain in detail. 

Annual Dinner – 29th Feb

College of speech language and hearing sciences (CSLHS) Annual dinner was organised to bring old batchmates together for a wonderful evening filled with laughter, memories, and fellowship. From touching reunions to nostalgic memories, every moment was full of happiness. The evening was filled with wonderful tilawat followed by a discussion of Quranic ayah’s that reflect different speech and language disorders followed by games. Let’s not forget about the delicious dinner, which drew everyone together over shared stories and laughs. 

 

Fundraiser – 7th Mar

College of speech language and hearing sciences in collaboration with World Health Organisation and SHAP (Speech and hearing association of Pakistan) organised a fundraiser in accordance to raise funds for patients with hearing impairment and to raise awareness about the World hearing month.

Seminar on hearing aid programming and dispensing – 14th Mar

College of speech language and hearing sciences, Ziauddin university in collaboration with World health organisation WHO organised a seminar on hearing aid programming and dispensing for our future audiologist and highlight the role of speech therapist during hearing aid programming. Mr. Mohsin Mailk shared insightful knowledge of how hearing aid programming is done and which hearing aids should be dispensed to which hearing loss patient. He also touched upon the new AI technology in the hearing aids making the hearing aid experience extraordinary.

Early detection and early intervention of hearing loss- Zahra + Anusha – 19th Mar

On 19th March, Ms Zahra Ibrahim and Ms Anusha Abdulsamad were invited to ZU FM 98.2 to discuss Early detection and early intervention of hearing loss, where they also highlighted the importance of Speech therapy intervention and management strategies. Moreover, it emphasized upon the red flags of hearing impairment and the role of critical age in amplification. Lastly, how a multidisciplinary team can be considered in diagnosing and treating a child/adult with hearing loss. 

Ear and hearing care *Rabika – 22nd Mar*

Ear and hearing care on FM 105 Ziauddin Hospital, on the occasion of World Hearing Month, organised a radio show in collaboration with FM 105. Ms Rabika Amanullah speech and language therapist shared her insights about taking care of ear and hearing and importance of hearing screening every year and making sure that the person does not spend much times in the noisy environment or use earbuds but rather goes to the ENT for proper cleaning.

Hearing Camp – 27/28th Mar

On the account of world hearing month; college of speech language and hearing sciences in collaboration with the world health organisation conducted a hearing camp at Agha Khan Welfare board for senior citizens.

Podiatric physicians are devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of foot and ankle disorders, diseases, and injuries. They are the only health professionals who exclusively specialise in this area and it’s a field in growing demand. An aging population coupled with an increase in chronic conditions that impact mobility, such as diabetes, means more people are seeking care.

At the heart of the Ziauddin University College of Podiatric Medicine (ZCPM) programme is a rigorous curriculum in the basic medical and clinical sciences mixed with hands-on learning experiences that begin in students’ second year, a full year earlier than other programmes. Students gain clinical experience in a variety of inpatient, outpatient, and specialty facilities in the Clifton area, including in surgery, radiology, wound care, biomechanics, medicine, anesthesia, and, of course, podiatric medicine and surgery. You’ll provide care to patients of all ages and backgrounds and, in line with ZCPM’s mission, connect with and learn from underserved communities as part of our CSR initiative.
